Years ago a great friend of mine, James, shared with me an acronym he heard when working his full-time job. I’ve used that acronym ever since to keep me focused on getting work done.
That Acronym is BHW, which stands for Bloody Hard Work.
It sums up in three little letters the essence of putting in the hard yards. When you have something you need to get done, just put in a little BHW and it will get done.
Pretty simple right. And man has those three little words help me push through some late nights of coding or through the toughest of sales meetings.
Here’s a quote I love that pretty much sums up the experience of BHW.
“I firmly believe that any man’s finest hour, the greatest fulfilment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out for a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle – victorious.” – Vince Lombardi
The days I have left it all out on the field are the days I have hit the hay smiling and feeling accomplished. And if i backed it up with a second day because of the excitement yesterday brought then I can get big things done.
If you are looking for a way to remember to keep going those extra couple of yards, think of BHW. Three simple letters that can help you push it through.
